A Wonderful Place to Call Home
The merry, merry month of May has arrived and with it, an abundance of celebrations and fun-filled activities. It’s also a great time for anyone considering senior living options to discover what makes Ingersoll Place Assisted Living and Memory Care in Niskayuna, NY, a wonderful place to call home.
We know it’s not enough to just talk about our warm and welcoming environment, great staff, delicious meals and robust activities calendar. Yes, these are important topics but what really sets Ingersoll Place apart is our enormous success in engaging residents from day one, easing them into an unfamiliar setting, nurturing their particular interests and filling each day with opportunities to experience joy, camaraderie and affection. The following are a sampling of our innovative programs and exciting events that help residents remain physically and mentally active, make new friends and enjoy full and happy lives.
Let the Games Begin
The competitive spirit is alive and well at Ingersoll Place, whether it’s shouting out “Bingo,” drawing a royal flush at the poker table, making a perfect bank shot in the weekly pool tournament or knowing the toughest answers to “Name that Tune.“ A beautifully crafted shuffle board table was recently installed in The Upper East Lounge and is quickly growing in popularity. The monthly Activities Calendar is filled with a wide assortment of word and board games that bring residents together and help foster a sense of community. Coming July 17 – 21: Summer Olympics for residents and staff!
Fun and Festivities
Parties and themed events are held throughout the year at Ingersoll Place. Earlier this month, we celebrated Cinco de Mayo with delicious, Mexican-style finger foods and beverages, colorful decorations and musical entertainment by the ever-popular Mike Purcell. Kicking off Mother’s Day weekend was a “Mommas, Mimosas and Manicures Spa Day” on Friday, followed by a special Mother’s Day craft session on Saturday and a “Famous Mothers” trivia game and Ice Cream Social, Sunday. At month’s end will be Ingersoll’s annual Memorial Day tribute featuring patriotic tunes in honor of the men and women who served in the US Military and gave their lives in service to their country.
Groups and Gatherings
Garden Club enthusiasts are looking forward to the start of planting season in both the East and West Wing gardens. Plans are also in the works – as suggested by the Gentlemen’s Club – for a Valleycats baseball outing at the Joe Bruno Stadium. The Walking Club meets weekly and makes good use of Ingersoll’s circular driveway which is being repaved this month. Exercise class is held each morning and on Tuesday afternoons, devotees of chair yoga gather for gentle stretches and poses. A Rosary prayer group meets daily at 10 a.m. A televised Catholic Mass is aired Sunday; a Protestant service, Saturday.
For residents not typically drawn to group activities, two beautiful bunnies, Oreo and Buttercup, have captured the hearts of many individuals who enjoy cuddling with them, stroking their fur and watching them at play. Although not officially “therapy animals, our bunnies are doing a great job of helping residents feel the love.
On the Road Again
After a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, outings that include an extensive array of local venues are back in full swing. From shopping trips, visits to the public library and lunch at neighborhood restaurants to getting reacquainted with equine friends at Krumkill Stables, residents are again enjoying being out and about in the Capital District. Most excursions are inclusive of both memory care and assisted living residents.
