Right Place

Not Too Big. Not Too Small. Just Right!
Bigger isn’t always better when choosing a senior living community for yourself or your loved ones. While national chains and regional networks offer many of the same services as their stand-alone counterparts, they can be worlds apart when it comes to creating a culture of teamwork and can-do attitude at every level of the organization. At Ingersoll Place, an 86 bed Assisted Living and Memory Care community, we’ve been perfecting these skills for nearly a century and have set the standard for delivering exceptional care with a personal touch for our residents.
We Love Saying Yes!
Not everyone is an early riser even with a delicious array of breakfast foods awaiting them in the dining room. Some residents prefer to begin the day in their own apartments, sipping a hot cup of coffee or tea and reading the newspaper. We know it would be easier to direct residents to the beverage station in the lobby but saying, “Yes, we can do that,” is what makes us Ingersoll. We say “yes” when a resident needs help with a computer or TV remote and yes, again, to picking up essentials from the pharmacy or supermarket. Meeting the needs of our residents and exceeding their expectations is at the heart of everything we do.
Something for Everyone
When residents talk, Activities Director Christina Benardo listens. She knows that Bingo and Poker, along with word and board games, arts and crafts sessions and exercise class will always be high on the list of favorite activities. But she’s also committed to making sure that residents’ ideas for new activities and programs are not only heard but in most cases, happen. During the past year, there have been visits to the public library and the Monet Exhibit at the Schenectady Armory, a luncheon cruise on Lake George, a concert by the Empire State Youth Orchestra at Proctors, presentations on local history, science and nature and the formation of a resident-staff choir. Residents also attended a Valley Cats baseball game, toured the Air and Space Museum and tried their luck at Rivers Casino. “Some of these are huge undertakings,” says Christina “but with staff in every department willing to lend a hand, we make sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy."
Words Worth Repeating
“Ingersoll Place is special,” says Claire Oliver, Marketing and Sales Director. “We hear it said over and over again by so many people coming through our door.” Prospective residents and their families comment on the “home-like” feeling, the friendly demeanor of staff and the “smile on everyone’s face.” New employees describe the encouragement and support they receive from managers and co-workers and how different Ingersoll feels compared to other workplaces. A resident’s daughter wrote, “At Ingersoll Place we found an extended family of caregivers – it’s the people that make it so special here because they truly care about mom and her family.” From longtime resident, M.S, there are words of gratitude: “I get up every morning and thank God that I live in such a wonderful place like Ingersoll.” And to quote Pamela Jordan, Facilities Director, who’s been a part of the Ingersoll Place family for more than 30 years, “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work.”
Making A Difference Every Day
Ingersoll’s You Make A Difference program, launched nearly a decade ago by Michelle Rearic, Business Office Manager, is a time-honored way of recognizing staff and thanking them for the wonderful work they do. Each month, nominations are submitted by residents, families and staff members identifying individuals who provide outstanding service, perform exceptional acts of kindness and go out of their way to support the residents and each other. Monthly award winners are selected by the management team and at year-end, the Employee of the Year is announced. “Our staff members take great pride in the outstanding care and personalized attention they give to residents,” says Caroline Thompson, Executive Director. “Their contributions to Ingersoll Place are invaluable and I welcome every opportunity to applaud their efforts.”
