A Summer Place To Be

Discover Why Ingersoll is the Summer Place to Be
Enjoying sun-filled days, gardens in full bloom, delicious meals and a seemingly endless array of fun things to do sounds like the perfect summer vacation, right? Well, at Ingersoll Place Assisted Living and Memory Care, residents enjoy the many pleasures of summer living from ice cream socials and music on the patio to cruising on Lake George, Valley Cats baseball and so much more!
Summer Celebrations and Special Events
Each month’s calendar of events is the brainchild of Activities Director Christina Benardo who’s always looking for new and innovative ways to encourage resident participation and ensure there is something for everyone. Kicking off the summer season was Ingersoll’s 99th anniversary celebration with stories shared by longtime staff members and the first of several outdoor barbecues hosted by the wonderful Dining Services team. Festivities continued with Laura Collins performing old-time piano tunes in the Lobby Lounge followed by a visit with the traveling petting zoo – an annual favorite among residents and staff.
During June and July, there were excursions to the Central Park Rose Garden, Colonie Golf Course and Via Aquarium and nearly two dozen residents enjoyed beautiful views of Lake George, along with great food and music aboard the Lac du Saint Sacrement, the largest cruise ship on the inland waters of New York State. Getting rave reviews was Ingersoll’s Summer Olympic Games, a weeklong competition among residents and staff that featured wheelchair races, chair volleyball, a pie eating contest and walkathon. Coming up in August is Ingersoll’s second annual Antique Car Show and Lemonade Stand FUN-Raiser. Proceeds from the event will benefit the local Homeless Shelter Action Committee, offset care-related costs for Ingersoll’s pet bunnies Oreo and Buttercup and also help ensure that fee-related events and outings are affordable for all Ingersoll Place residents.
More August Happenings
Those “lazy, hazy days of summer” don’t come close to describing the many exciting events and programs scheduled for August. Each week, there will be live musical entertainment by some of Ingersoll’s favorite performers. Also scheduled is the Bethlehem Traditional Irish Dance School whose young dancers will delight everyone with their energy and skill. A one-hour craft session with Lee Anna Obos – a longtime volunteer instructor whose mother lives at Ingersoll Place – always brings out the artistic talents and creative abilities of our residents. Outings include shopping at the Dollar Store, lunch at the Blue Ribbon Diner, a visit to Rivers Casino and a couple of easy, breezy scenic drives for those who just want to sit back and relax.
Words Worth Repeating
We love hearing (and sharing) what our residents say about life at Ingersoll Place. The following are comments made during the last week of July:
“My husband and I are very happy here. The food is always good, the people are friendly and no one bugs you to do this or that or the other thing if you don’t want to. They let you relax and enjoy life.” (L.M.)
“I like being outside and taking walks around the building. It keeps me active and busy. I’ve seen deer a few times out by the trees and a couple of big birds, maybe hawks or eagles, but I’m not sure. I’m trying to get all my walking in now, before winter comes.” (T.C.)
“The Activities staff are always doing special things to keep us happy. I won an Olympics medal in the cake eating contest and everyone was laughing and having fun. I get up every morning and thank God that I live in such a wonderful place like Ingersoll.” (M.S.)
“There’s a strong sense of camaraderie here. The food is good, wonderful meals every day and the barbecues are nice too. The staff is good, they treat me well and are always pleasant.” (S.M.)
“When the weather is nice, I love sitting outside watching people go by. Sometimes they stop and talk to me and the other residents. I also like seeing all the birds flying around. This is a very nice place to live.” (V.C.)
“The barbecues are great. I didn’t know what to expect when I first came here but it’s all turned out well for me.” (G.W.)
“I went on the boat trip to Lake George. The food was great, so was the music and dancing. I was having so much fun, I thought I might have a heart attack. Just kidding.”(B.K.)
