Best Wings I’ve Ever Had!
“A few weeks ago,” says Claire Oliver, Director of Marketing and Sales, “I was sitting at my desk when a resident who had just finished lunch appeared in my doorway. Without a moment’s hesitation he announced excitedly, ‘Those were the best wings I’ve ever had in my entire life and I’m not bull****ting you!’ We love hearing that kind of enthusiasm from our residents and the good news is,” she adds, “we hear it all the time.”
Making Mealtime Memorable
Food plays an important role in everyday life at Ingersoll Place. Certainly, good nutrition and healthy meal choices are built in to each day’s menus but so are chef prepared comfort foods like roast turkey dinners, mouthwatering meatloaf, freshly made pizza and a tempting array of delicious soups. Breakfast fare is made to order and there’s an “always available” menu with a variety of sandwiches, salads, grilled items and sides to choose from at all three meals.
“Our menus are inspired by the residents, themselves,” says Jason Belanger, Chef Manager. “We want to know which food items and preparations they prefer and encourage their feedback. In some instances, we’ve replicated their favorite home-cooked recipes including an outstanding chicken dish that everyone loves and now appears regularly on our menu. It’s important to our entire culinary team – chefs, cooks and wait staff – that residents look forward to their meals and the dining experience.”
VIP Service and Support
The Stanford Dining Room, with its spacious layout and backyard views of the Reist Wildlife Sanctuary, is the mealtime hub for Ingersoll’s Assisted Living residents. Under the direction of Maria Hernandez, Dining Services Manager, meals are served restaurant-style by a well-trained team of wait staff who take great pride in getting to know the residents and their individual preferences and needs. With VIP attention from staff and the collective good will of tablemates, newcomers quickly acclimate to their new surroundings. “I’m here to make sure that residents are comfortable, relaxed and satisfied with the services we provide,” says Maria. “We want to see them laughing, talking with each other and enjoying the delicious meals our culinary team prepares each day.”
The Lower West Dining Room provides a home-like setting for residents on the Memory Care wing. Meals are served family-style by Resident Care staff who assist with menu selections, offer cueing and encouragement for residents who may need additional support and help ensure that all residents continue to enjoy their favorite foods in a warm and caring environment.
Three Meals A Day and No Dishes to Wash!
“I often hear from residents and their loved ones,” Claire says, “how much easier and more enjoyable their lives are without the myriad household tasks that were once so burdensome. A resident’s daughter recently told me how happy she is to see her mother more like her old self again, eating well and enjoying an active social life. Earlier this month,” Claire continued, “I toured with an elderly widower whose priorities were quite clear. He told me he’s missing the meals his wife used to prepare but doesn’t want to be bothered with shopping, cooking or cleaning up. ‘I just want to sit down to a nice meal,’ he said, ‘and skip the hassle that goes into it.’ ”
