Every Day is Independence Day at Ingersoll Place

One of the most important things we do at Ingersoll Place is create a strong sense of community for our residents. Whether they’re newcomers or old-timers, we want them to feel connected to the people that live and work here and comfortable in their surroundings. To make this happen, says Amber Zoller, Case Manager, “Every member of our staff plays an essential role in helping residents remain active and independent in ways that best meet their individual needs. What it really comes down to,” she says, “is making sure that all of our residents have the freedom to engage in activities that reflect their preferences and personal interests and receive the care and support they need to enjoy life to its fullest.”
In 2023, Marie B., age 96, moved from an assisted living community in Texas to Ingersoll Place. She wanted to be closer to her sister who lives in a nearby nursing home. With scheduling assistance from Ingersoll’s Concierge staff, Marie, a retired chaplain, takes the CDTA Star bus twice a week to Albany to visit her. “The care staff here are remarkable,” says Marie. “Jenny at the front desk is always helpful and the food is excellent. Being here is a joy. It’s everything I had hoped for and more.”
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Pamela Jordan, Facilities Director, with 34 years of service, is Ingersoll’s longest tenured employee. She’s a no-nonsense, get-it-done manager who is responsible for maintenance, housekeeping, transportation and other essential operations. Her passion for teamwork is legendary, as is her commitment to providing residents with exceptional service and peace of mind for their loved ones. “We’re the A-Team, Pam says of Ingersoll’s 70-plus staff members. “We’re here for the same reason… to take care of our residents and each other.”
After the death of his wife, Jim S. sold their home and moved into an apartment in Rotterdam. “It was a beautiful place and I loved it,” he says, “but I was getting tired doing the shopping, cooking and other household chores. Moving to Ingersoll was the right decision for me. I still drive, have lunch with friends and shop for essentials. I know there are a lot of wonderful people working behind the scenes to make my life easier and keep this place running efficiently. They do a great job.”
Forget the Stereotypes
Many older adults struggle with the idea of leaving their own homes. Some worry about losing contact with loved ones; others, giving up their autonomy and independence. “It’s hard for them to imagine,” says Claire Oliver, Director of Marketing and Sales, “that life can be easier, more fulfilling and a lot more fun in a vibrant assisted living community like Ingersoll Place.” Prospective residents and family members are often surprised to learn that some residents still drive, do volunteer work and take vacations with friends and family. They are also impressed by the robust monthly calendar filled with daily activities, off-site excursions and celebratory events. During tours or in follow-up conversations, Claire says visitors often comment on the friendliness of staff, the warm welcome they received or how pleasant the experience was. “I especially love hearing them say, ‘Wow, it’s not what I expected. This place is amazing!’”
A Great Place for Moms… Dads, Too!
Catherine Ayers, whose father Allan D. lives at Ingersoll Place, recently posted the following review which appears on the “A Place for Mom” website.
If we could give the friendliness of the staff a 10 we would! My dad and stepmom moved in a year and a half ago. My step-mom really needed the care, but my dad didn't. Since then, my stepmom has passed and dad has realized he's the highest functioning 94 year old there! What is wonderful is that the staff really try to make sure he is engaged in the activities that are designed for the higher functioning adults like trips to museums, out to eat, and to concerts. What our family likes best about Ingersoll is that they have become our extended family. The nurses, the doctor, the chefs… even the housekeepers are absolutely fantastic and understand the needs of our elders. Dad frequently visits one of his kids in another state and loves doing this, but always upon his return, he says, "It's good to be home."
